Völklinger Hütte

Völklingen Ironworks is a world heritage site in Saarland region that dates back to 1873. The plant was closed in 1986, the year i was born. Nowadays it´s a museum, but apart from the rust it seems like the last steelworkers just left.

Eine Hochzeit

A wedding in the castle of Kirchberg. A view from the highest room of the castle, the "aerie", and the party in the great hall which dates back to the 16th century. These were drawn as a gift for the couple.

Schnee immerzu

I´m reposting my first post to Urban sketchers, from last month, with two additional winter sketches.

It´s winter, which means it´s not exactly sketching season in Germany and I haven´t been drawing much. I leave for work when it´s still dark, and when I come home, it´s dark again, and of course, it´s terribly cold outside. So I drew these views from various windows of my appartment.

These are drawn in square sketchbook with grey paper that i hadn´t used before. It´s nice to use a darker paper to play around with negative space- but it seems the only thing i can draw in it are desaturated winter scenes!

It´s March now and you´d think spring might be coming along, but it´s been snowing again.

Mitfahrgelegenheit

Driving home in a battered old VW bus. I met Vanessa, the driver and another girl, Tracy, through an online car pooling comunity that arranges cheap lifts. Though the heating didn´t work and the interior fitting was coming apart, it was much nicer than taking the train.

jazz

i found this sketch from february- AYM refers to the jazz band playing in the background, called angry young men. At SchonSchön bar/club, Mainz. These three were engaged in a lively discussion, and i sipped my drink and drew.

winter portraits

All drawings done during the hvide sande trip, outside temperature around - 8 °C made indoor sketching very appealing... my models complied and dedicated themselves to their holiday activities, which consisted of drinking wine, watching tv, searching the internet for christmas recipes and crocheting socks.

zollhafen

The old custom harbour in Mainz, snowed under. This building was used for wine storage and is now made into a centre with restaurants, shops and something they call "wine experience". It is a beautiful space right beside the Rhine and i´m looking forward to seing it finished.

watching tv

i think it was the simpsons, so beer is the only appropriate beverage.

jens friebe

jens friebe´s gig in tiny walpodenakademie, mainz, three weeks ago. great lyrics and trashy pop. the audience seems kinda indifferents, but that´s just because i drew them before the concert started, so everyone was still chatting and drinking beer. couldn´t resist a little photoshop.
